What a South African Wedding Really Costs in 2026
WedSouth Africa · 2026/09/18

The short answer
Most South African couples marrying with 100 to 120 guests spend between R180 000 and R350 000. Cape Winelands and coastal KwaZulu-Natal weddings sit at the upper end; Free State, Limpopo and North West weddings are typically 30 to 40 percent cheaper.
Venue hire
Venue hire ranges from about R25 000 for a community or garden venue to R120 000 for an exclusive-use wine estate over a full weekend. Ask whether furniture, linen and a coordinator are included before comparing quotes.
Catering
Catering is quoted per head. Budget R450 to R900 per guest for a plated three-course menu, plus bar service. Family-style sharing menus are often cheaper than plated service at the same quality.
Photography and video
A full-day photographer costs R15 000 to R40 000. A videographer adds R18 000 to R35 000. Booking both from one studio sometimes reduces the combined cost.
Where couples overspend
Decor and stationery are the two line items that most often run over. Set a hard number for both before you start browsing, and brief your supplier with that number rather than asking for a quote on an open brief.
